NEET UG 2025 Results Partially Stayed: What Students Need to Know

The much-anticipated NEET UG 2025 results have hit a legal roadblock as courts intervene in response to student complaints about exam disruptions. The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the exam for entry into undergraduate medical programs across India, is now under judicial scrutiny after multiple petitions alleged unfair conditions during the exam.

Madras High Court: Power Outage Sparks Stay

On May 16, 2025, the Madras High Court issued a temporary stay on the declaration of NEET UG results following a petition filed by 13 students from the Avadi exam center in Chennai. The students reported severe disturbances due to a power outage and storm-like conditions during the exam on May 4. According to the petitioners, the exam was interrupted for over an hour, with no proper lighting or ventilation, and students were forced to change seats due to waterlogging.

Justice V. Lakshminarayanan directed the NTA to withhold the results for these candidates until a comprehensive inquiry is completed. The court has scheduled the next hearing for June 2, 2025.

Madhya Pradesh High Court: Limited Relief Granted

In a separate case, the Madhya Pradesh High Court initially stayed the results for all candidates nationwide, responding to a petition from a candidate who faced similar issues in Indore. However, the court later revised its order, allowing the NTA to release results for all exam centers except 11 specific ones in Indore.

Justice Subodh Abhyankar has demanded detailed reports from the NTA and other stakeholders, and the next hearing is scheduled for June 30, 2025.

What This Means for Students

The NTA had originally set June 14, 2025, as the result declaration date. Students from unaffected centers are still expected to receive their results on time. However, those who took the exam at the Avadi center in Chennai or one of the 11 affected centers in Indore will have to wait until the courts issue further directions.

Candidates are advised to stay updated via the official NTA NEET website (https://neet.nta.nic.in) and to monitor announcements from the High Courts involved.

Conclusion

These developments underscore the importance of exam integrity and uniform testing conditions. As courts deliberate on these cases, the education community watches closely, awaiting resolutions that uphold fairness and transparency in one of India’s most competitive entrance examinations.
